Linking custom fields to categories
Show a custom field only on the assets of the categories you choose.
Why link a field to a category
Not every field makes sense for every asset. A "Licence plate" field belongs on vehicles, not on laptops. Linking a custom field to categories keeps the asset form short and relevant.
How it works
- When you create or edit a custom field, choose the categories it applies to.
- The field then appears on the asset form for assets in those categories.
- Assets in other categories do not show it.
- If a field is required, Tracero enforces it whenever an asset it applies to is saved.
Tips
- Create the categories first. See using categories to organize your asset inventory.
- Pick the right type for each field. See custom field types.
- Deleting a category does not delete assets, they simply become uncategorised.
