Custom field types
The field types available for custom fields and when to use each one.
Available types
- Text: a short line of text, such as a serial number.
- Multiline text: longer notes or specifications.
- Number: a plain number, such as a capacity.
- Amount: a money value, such as a replacement cost.
- Boolean: a yes or no choice, such as "Insured".
- Option: a dropdown where the user picks one of the values you define.
- Date: a calendar date, such as a warranty expiry.
- Attachment: a file stored with the asset, such as a manual or certificate. Download it from the field's value on the asset.
Choosing a type
Pick the most specific type. A date field can be filtered and sorted by date, and an option field keeps entries consistent, which text cannot.
Things to remember
- A field's type is fixed by its name. Importing an existing name with a different type fails with "already exist with different type".
- Required fields are enforced when an asset is saved.
- Your plan caps the number of active custom fields.
