Adding additional fields to assets
Use custom fields to track details such as a serial number or warranty expiry on every asset.
What custom fields are
Custom fields are extra fields your workspace defines for assets, for example "Serial number" or "Warranty expiry". Once a field exists, it appears on the asset form and its value is stored with each asset.
Using them
- Pick the field type that fits the data. See custom field types.
- Link a field to specific categories so it only shows for those assets. See linking custom fields to categories.
- Mark a field as required and Tracero enforces it whenever an asset is saved.
- Filter lists by custom fields to find assets quickly.
Limits
- Your plan caps the number of active custom fields. At the limit you will see "You have reached your limit of active custom fields". Deactivate a field or upgrade your plan.
- Deleting a field is a soft delete: its values are removed from assets.
Import and export
In CSV files each custom field is one column named cf: followed by the field name, for example cf:Serial number. Importing a name that already exists with a different type fails with "already exist with different type". See the CSV import helper.
