Alternative barcodes
Attach Code128, Code39, DataMatrix, EAN13 or external QR codes to assets and choose what labels show.
What alternative barcodes are
Every asset and kit gets a Tracero QR code. The alternative barcodes add-on lets you also attach the barcodes you already print on your equipment, so scanning an existing label finds the right item.
Barcodes are available only when your plan includes them.
Supported types
- Code128: 4 to 40 printable ASCII characters. A warning appears at 30 or more.
- Code39: 4 to 43 characters, uppercase A to Z and digits 0 to 9.
- DataMatrix: 4 to 100 printable ASCII characters.
- ExternalQR: 1 to 2048 characters of any kind, for QR codes printed by someone else.
- EAN13: exactly 13 digits with a valid check digit.
Add a barcode to an asset
- Open the asset and edit it.
- Add a value under the barcode type you want.
- Save. A value must be unique in your workspace, otherwise you will see "This barcode value is already used by" and the name of the item that holds it.
You can also fill the barcode columns when you import assets from a CSV file. See the CSV import helper.
Choose what labels and scans show
In Settings, General, QR ID display a workspace can show the QR ID, the SAM ID, or a barcode type on labels and scanner results. If an asset has no barcode of the chosen type, Tracero falls back to the QR ID.
An individual asset can override the workspace choice with its own preferred barcode. This override needs the alternative barcodes add-on. Without it you will see a message that per-asset overrides require the add-on.
